About

What is Canine Einstein?
Albert Einstein is considered to be one of the most brilliant minds in history. While I don’t expect your pooch to unlock the theory of relativity, Canine Einstein’s goal is to prove that yes, even YOUR dog can be a canine-Einstein, with the right kind of conditioning and training, which is backed by sound scientific proof (known as classical or Pavlovian conditioning).

As a dog trainer, and a lover of dogs in general, I believe in a positive, mostly hands-off approach to dog training. I don’t condone methods of physically reprimanding a dog, such as sharp leash corrections or alpha rolls, even with a dominant or aggressive dog (as it has been shown again and again to escalate the behavior rather than extinguish it). If you’re looking for that type of training, you will not find it here.

What is clicker training?
Clicker training is a form of classical conditioning that tells the dog when a behavior was performed correctly and a reward is forthcoming. A clicker is a small plastic device, with a flexible metal tongue, that produces a sound similar to a clicking pen. When paired with food or other type of fun reward, the clicker can be a valuable tool that is more effective than all of the leash corrections in the world.

Who are you?
My name is Susan Shipman. I’m 25 years old from Southeast Texas and I have lived and breathed everything canine related since I was about 9 years old, much of which did include how to train dogs. I’m currently attending Penn Foster Career School based out of Scranton, PA to become a certified canine behaviorist.

I have two dogs, trained by myself. Emily is a 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and Blaze is a 2-year-old Lab/Hound/who-knows-what-else mix. Their pictures can be seen throughout the website.

Why do your articles open in a new window?
Because they are hosted on a separate site. They are still my articles, written exclusively by me, but are hosted on eHow because that is originally where I began publishing. They are written out in easy to understand, step-by-step techniques.
